Online resource for mine review boards launches
VANCOUVER (October 31, 2025 ) — A new online resource for mine review boards is being launched November 2 at the Tailings and Mine Waste 2025 conference in Banff, Alberta.
Geotechnical engineer Gord McKenna, principal of McKenna Geotechnical Inc., will introduce the online resource during a half-day short course at the conference that will describe the purpose and need for review boards.

“The benefits of review boards for heavy civil and mining projects are widely documented,” said McKenna. “This resource brings these benefits together into a single location that will allow review board members to interact and share best practices.”
The online resource describes how mine review boards get set up, how they function, and how they can benefit mines over the short term and a longer horizon.
The online resource is sponsored by McKenna Geotechnical Inc, of which Gord McKenna is the founder and principal. Based in Vancouver, BC, the firm specializes in providing consulting expertise in mining geotechnique, landform design, and mine reclamation.
McKenna has over 30 years of experience providing professional consulting expertise to mines in Canada and around the world. Since 2010, McKenna has participated on 40 review boards and currently sits on 12 boards.
McKenna is also the founder and chair of the Landform Design Institute, which is committed to making landform design common in the mining industry worldwide.
“Ignoring review board advice is often a harbinger of more serious problems.”
